EPL Premier League Final Day

The final day of the Premier League season is here, and with the title wrapped up a long time ago by Manchester City, all eyes are looking elsewhere. During midweek Tottenham wrapped up a Champions League spot by beating Newcastle, while Chelsea kept themselves alive with a point against Huddersfield, although three would have put a completely different spin on things. At the bottom only a miracle can save Swansea from relegation to the Championship, something that looks almost impossible for them going into the final game.
There is one storyline remaining for Manchester City and that is whether or not they can reach the magic 100 point mark that is still available for them to do. A draw last weekend against Huddersfield didn’t help, but they are on 97 points and still have a chance to make it. Their final game of the season is a trip to Southampton, and a win will give them 100 points, while anything else will not be enough. They have had a great campaign and are certainly the ones to beat going into next season, so reaching the magical 100 would be a fitting way to sign off for the summer.
The one battle that remains in the Premier League is the race for the final Champions League spot, which is between Liverpool and Chelsea. With just one win from their last five games, Liverpool have dropped down to a position where Chelsea can catch them, although they have been fantastic in the Champions League, their Premier League form has left a lot to be desired. The ball is still in Liverpool’s court, and Betfair have them at 1/50 to finish inside the top four, showing how monumental the task is for Chelsea. With a huge advantage when it comes to goal difference, the only realistic chance that Chelsea have to get into the top four is if the following two outcomes happen.
1. Chelsea must win away at Newcastle
2. Liverpool must lose at home to Brighton
No draws can be involved, those two results have to happen for Chelsea to make it into the top four. While they have been in good form recently, and head up to Newcastle as favourites to win their game, it looks to be highly unlikely that Brighton can go to Anfield and win a game that means nothing to them, but means a huge amount to the home team. Anything from the game will do for Liverpool, even a draw so they should bag the final top four spot. There is a chance they could overtake Tottenham and finish third with a win, although that would require Tottenham to either draw or lost to Leicester at home.
The Premier League season is drawing to a close and there are a couple of stories still to be decided at the top of the table. At the very top, can Manchester City make it to the 100 point mark, they look to have a winnable game, but only a win will do for them. Slightly lower, can Chelsea really make the top four? That looks to be unlikely, but the final day of the season is known for drama, so it will be interesting to watch and see what happens.
