How Does Edit My Acca Work, and Which Bookies Offer It?
The beloved Accumulator bet, or Acca for short, captivates punters more than any other bet type. After all, who doesn’t love a small-stakes punt which offers the chance of a rather handsome or potentially spectacular payout?
Whether you are one of the legions of football punters who places a weekend Acca and looks on as the results come in, or you like to mix up selections across a range of sports, chances are high that you have placed an Acca at some point in your betting life.
Most Accas look good at the time we place them. However, I’m sure we have all had second thoughts after placing our bet. “why did I include Man Utd again, they always let me down”, or “Why did I go for nine legs when eight would have done?”.
In the past, there was little to do in situations like this - other than watch on as Man Utd do indeed let you down, or you get seven out of eight correct on your eightfold. Such is life, there’s always next week. But not any more…
The popular Cash Out facility provides one way to get out of an Acca early, and now, thanks to the excellent Edit My Acca tool, you may remove, add to, or swap Acca selections AFTER placing your bet.
Goodbye Manchester United, hello eightfold. Here, we take a look at how it all works.
How Does Edit My Acca Work?
The Edit My Acca tool allows you to alter your Acca Bet between the time you place it and when the bet is settled. All bookmakers who offer this tool allow you to make changes before kick-off, whilst others let you tweak your bet In Play.
When removing a selection from your Acca, your bet is cashed out, with the cash-out sum immediately used to place an Acca on the remaining selections at the current prices.
When you add a selection, the extra leg is simply slipped into your bet, and the returns are adjusted accordingly. If the additional leg has not started, you will receive the pre-match odds, and if the game has begun, you will get the current In-Play price.
When you make a Swap, the existing Acca is cashed out, with the cash-out value used to place a new Acca containing the swapped-in selection.
You may be thinking, “Couldn’t I do this myself by cashing out a bet and creating a new Acca”. You could, but the Edit My Acca tool streamlines the process and is usually as easy as a couple of mouse clicks.
Why Would I Want to Edit My Acca?
So, that’s how it works, but why would you want to edit your Acca? There are many reasons, for example.
- Team News - Say you included Liverpool in your usual Saturday morning Acca only to learn that Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah will unexpectedly miss out through injury. Edit My Acca allows you to remove Liverpool or swap in an alternative selection if you wish
- Events Turning Against You - Perhaps you have placed a sixfold, and five of your sides are comfortably ahead. However, the sixth game is goalless, and the team you have backed are a man down and under pressure. Edit My Acca will allow you to remove the “dodgy” game from your bet. The returns generated by the Cash Out and new Acca will be significantly lower. However, any return is better than a loss, and some operators let you increase your stake when editing your Acca
- Swapping in/Adding a Value Bet - Or maybe you avoided a heavy odds-on shot before the game, only to see the favourites fall behind in the first ten minutes. With so much time left, you are sure they can turn it around and see this as a value bet, with updated odds that are much more appealing. Now may be the time to add them to your Acca
- Getting out before things go wrong - This can be useful when one of your selections is playing in a live televised game. When watching the match, you realise that either the opposition is playing much better than expected or your side is having a nightmare. With Edit My Acca, you can kick the underperforming side to touch or even reverse your decision and Add their opponents
The above represents only a handful of examples. Regular football punters can no doubt think of many occasions when they wish they had access to the Edit My Acca feature.
Any Downsides
Any tool that creates greater flexibility and generates more options is always a winner in our book. However, there are a couple of things to be aware of:
- Bookies Margin - Any time you place a bet, a bookmaker's margin is built into the odds. When Editing your bet, you are effectively placing a second bet and paying this margin twice. Chances are you won't notice this, but it can make a difference to your betting balance over time
- Promotions - Many promotions use the term "qualifying bets" followed by a stipulation that "cashed-out bets do not count as qualifying bets". Whenever you use the Edit My Acca tool, you are effectively cashing out one bet and placing a new one. The Edited bet may count as a new qualifying bet, but not always, as the amended stake may fall below any minimum stake requirements of the promotion. Always be sure of the terms and conditions to avoid disappointment
Which Bookies Offer Edit My Acca?
Ladbrokes were amongst the first to bring this feature to market as part of their “Boost-iful” package. However, as with all good ideas, other operators were quick to follow suit. Those wishing to introduce this tool to their Acca adventures should head to the following.
- Ladbrokes: Edit My Acca - Navigate to the My Accas section on your PC or Mobile to remove selections from your Acca before the match and/or In-Play. Only available on single-line Accas containing football Match Result selections
- bet365: Edit Bet -. Head to the Cash Out tab within My Bets to add, swap, or remove selections, change your bet type or increase your stake. Available across selected markets for Football, Tennis, Horse Racing, Cricket, Basketball, and more
- bwin: Edit My Bet - Select Edit my Bet from the My Bets selection to add, swap or remove selections. Available Pre-Match and In-Play across a range of sports
Note that at all of the above bookmakers, the Edit feature will only be available on matches where the Cash Out facility is available.
So, next time an Acca appears to be going awry, remember that you don't have to accept your fate. Edit My Acca may provide a way to salvage something from your bet or even turn a loss into a win.
