Liverpool v Tottenham - Champions League Final Preview
Two English clubs go head to head in Europe’s premier football competition, in what could be a golden couple of weeks for football in the country. With the two club competitions already in the bag, England will head to the Nations League final next week looking to pick up an international trophy.
The Champions League semi finals brought us tension and excitement like we have never seen before. Liverpool lost in Barcelona 3-0 but somehow managed to win the second leg 4-0 in what was a memorable night at Anfield for their fans.
The drama wasn’t done with there. Tottenham lost their first leg 1-0, and found themselves 2-0 down at half time in the second leg. However, just like Liverpool they didn’t give up, and three second half goals put them through on the away goal ruling, setting up what seemed like an unlikely all-English final.
Can we have the same kind of drama in the final? It would be great for the neutrals if that was the case on Saturday.
Liverpool hold the advantage here, in many different ways. They have the experience advantage after playing in the final last year and losing. On top of that they have played in plenty of other big games, whereas Tottenham haven’t really, so that may make them a little nervous.
They also hold the quality advantage. Liverpool were well clear of Tottenham in the Premier League standings, and on their day they are a match for anyone in Europe, the same cannot be said about Spurs. Lastly, form, and Liverpool were brilliant at the end of the Premier League season, pushing Manchester City all the way while Tottenham limped over the line to finish fourth.
One big boost for Tottenham is the likely return of Harry Kane, who has declared himself fit for this tie. He is the main man for them, and if they are to win this then they are going to need Kane on the pitch and fully able to perform.
Champions League Final Prediction
Both teams like to attack and hold possession of the ball, so we should see a game with plenty of chances. However, Liverpool have the advantage in terms of quality and experience, and that can be enough for them to win this game.
