NFL 2019 Season Preview
The new NFL season is back, something that fans of the sport and punters have been looking forward to all summer. We begin with games at the start of September, and everything will then build towards the Super Bowl, which comes at the beginning of February. Ahead of the new season, we take a look at a few bets that stand out to us as being ones of interest for 2019.
Super Bowl Winner
We’ve got a great tussle going off in the NFL right now between experienced teams, led by some of the best quarterbacks in the game and up and coming teams, full of youth with quarterbacks looking to make a name for themselves. The main four as far as betting goes are split with two on each team. Tom Brady and Drew Brees are going to lead the Patriots and Saints into battle full of experience while Jared Goff and Patrick Mahomes are going to take their young Rams and Chiefs a long way.
The Rams were beaten in the Super Bowl by the Patriots last season, but they will have learnt a huge amount from that. For many of the team, that was their first deep playoff run, let alone their first taste of what a Super Bowl is like. The wounds will have started to heal a little, but what they learnt from the whole experience will never be forgotten. Goff in particular will have a mountain of experience from that loss alone, something I am backing him to put right this time around.
There is no doubt this Rams team is talented, they should breeze through the regular season and go deep into the playoffs again. This time around they will have the knowledge and experience required to thrive in tough situations, and that is exactly the reason they are my pick to win the Super Bowl.
Over/Under Regular Season Wins Market
This is a fascinating market in which two teams really stand out as being good bets. The first focuses on the Detroit Lions, a team I think are going to really struggle this season. When you look at the roster, it is full of mainly average NFL players and on top of that they are really lacking in any depth. If they pick up a couple of injuries, this season could be a very bad one.
The line at bet365 is currently set at over/under 6.5 wins on the season, and even if they do keep healthy I struggle to see how they will win seven or more games with the roster they have. Their defensive group looks average at best and with little depth in both the wide receiver and running back position, it would be no surprise if they struggled to get points on the board. The bet here is for the Lions to record under 6.5 regular season wins.
The second team is one I fancy to do well and that is the Minnesota Vikings. Kirk Cousins was supposed to be the final piece of their jigsaw last season, but things didn’t quite go as well as they had hoped. Cousins has had a season to settle in Minnesota, and with the players around him as they have kept a strong core of their squad together. With that under his belt, Cousins should be better and if that is the case then there is no reason why Minnesota can’t get into the playoffs at least.
That all makes the line of over/under 9.5 look appealing. With Cousins in the same form as last season, they should go close to beating the line, but any improvement from him would make this a good bet, so over 9.5 wins for the Vikings is the pick here.
NFL Season Bet
- LA Rams to win the Super Bowl @ 15/2
- Detroit Lions under 6.5 regular season wins @ 11/10
- Minnesota Vikings over 9.5 regular season wins @ 5/4
All odds correct at the time of writing from Bet365.
Bet365 NFL Early Pay Out Offer
Those looking for a new bookmaker ahead of the NFL season should check out bet365. Not only do they have extensive betting markets on the NFL, but they also have a great early pay out offer that you can take advantage of when betting on teams to win individual games.
With this offer, should your team go ahead by 17 points or more in any game this season, up to and including the Super Bowl, then bet365 will pay you out on your bet early, regardless of what happens in the rest of the game.
This means if your team is up by 17 or more and then goes on to lose, you will be paid out as a winner when other bookmakers would be settling your bet as a losing one.
