The Return of the Premier League: Week 1 Treble Bet

At long last, the wait is all but over. It may have only been a little under three months since the end of the 2022/23 campaign, but fans up and down the country are chomping at the bit in readiness for the new season to begin. The sporting week isn’t the same without a steady stream of Premier League action, and happily, the greatest league in the world explodes back into life this coming weekend.
Of course, the perfect accompaniment to the latest list of fixtures is a bet or two, with bookmakers' footballing turnover set to go through the roof once more. Not ones to miss out on the fun, we have weighed up the opening games and picked out a solid value treble to hopefully get the new season off to a flying start on the punting front. All Prices quoted are from William Hill.
Bournemouth vs West Ham – West Ham to Win and Both Teams to Score @ 19/5
Bournemouth look to have taken a risk in scrapping Gary O’Neill - who did so well to keep the club in the Premier League last season – and bringing in Androni Iraolo, who will find the demands of the Premier League much different to La Liga. The Spanish coach has at least been backed in the transfer market, but none of Justin Kluivert, Hamed Traore or Milos Kerkez set the pulse racing, and the suspicion is the Cherries may be in for a long season.
West Ham will look to improve on last season's 14th-placed finish but have a solid foundation to do so, having been the 11th-best side in the division according to the Expected Points measure. The departure of Declan Rice is a blow, but they at least have an established system and way of playing, in addition to plenty of creativity in midfield in the shape of Saïd Benrahma and Lucas Paquetá. The Hammers are far from watertight, particularly down the left-hand side, and may struggle to keep a clean sheet, but they are catching a Bournemouth side in transition and can take the points.
Brighton vs Luton – Handicap Betting: Brighton - 2 @ 11/5
Priced at just 4/11 for relegation, newly promoted Luton Town are a certainty for relegation in the eyes of many punters, and it’s pretty hard to disagree with that assessment. Boasting a squad value which is dwarfed by the majority of their 19 Premier League rivals, the Hatters will need to rely on their organisation and picking up results at home if they are to have any hope of survival. An away trip to one of the most impressive sides in the division from last season looks like a mightily tall order on the opening day.
Following the departure of Alexis Mac Allister and the uncertainty surrounding Moises Caicedo, Roberto DeZerbi will need to rejig his midfield, but the club is renowned for its excellent recruitment, and Mahmoud Dahoud looks a shrewd acquisition. Joao Pedro, meanwhile, has the talent to light up the Amex and joins Kaoru Mitomo, Solly March and Evan Ferguson to create a dangerous attacking foursome. Luton look overmatched here, and we expect the Seagulls' class advantage to translate into a comfortable victory.
Manchester United vs Wolves – Manchester United to win and 4 or more Goals in the Match @ 15/8
Manchester United head into the current season seemingly moving firmly in the right direction under Erik ten Haag. Regaining their Champion’s League status and landing the Carabao Cup last term, they have kept the positive momentum going with a near-£180m splurge in the summer transfer window – headlined by Danish hitman Rasmus Hojlund who looks set to fill the glaring gap in the number 9 position. With Mason Mount coming in to add to the creativity and threat of Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and co, the Red Devils are fancied to blow a few sides away this season – particularly at home.
And then we have Wolves. The Molineux club should be heading into the season on a positive note, having improved massively under Julen Lopetegui to stave off relegation with something to spare. Instead, a frugal transfer policy has resulted in Lopetegui calling it a day, star man Ruben Neves departing for Saudi Arabia, defensive rock Nathan Collins upping sticks for Brentford, and Raul Jimenez leaving to join Fulham. All in all, the midland side enter the season in a shambles, and an opening fixture under the Old Trafford lights in front of the TV cameras feels like a disaster waiting to happen. We can see United winning big in this one.
A £10 Treble on the above three selections returns £441.60 with William Hill.
