Tottenham v Liverpool - Premier League Preview
It has been a very contrasting summer off the field for Tottenham and Liverpool, and it will be interesting to see which team comes out on top on Saturday afternoon when they meet. Liverpool made strides once again this summer, attempting to fix the holes they have in their team with big money signings while Tottenham did the opposite and signed absolutely no one. It is a big, bold move to sign no one and should Tottenham disappoint this season then it is certainly going to be something that Spurs fans talk about for years to come.
Liverpool are one of three teams that have won every game so far, sitting top of the Premier League with a superior goal difference after four games. Tottenham got off to a great start winning their first three games, but a defeat away at Watford before the international break ended their winning start. Both have started brightly in attack, scoring nine goals in their opening four games while it is Liverpool who have the better defensive record so far, impressively conceding just one goal in what was an area they struggled last season.
With home advantage on their side, and needing to bounce back from the defeat against Watford, Tottenham have plenty going for them but I don’t think they are good enough to beat Liverpool after seeing The Reds make such an impressive start. Both teams have an attacking threat from their front three and we should see a very attacking game from the offset, so it would be no surprise to see goals scored in this one, despite Liverpool conceding just one goal so far. Spurs fans will remember the way they took apart the Manchester United defence in their 3-0 away victory this season, and when they play like that there are few defences out there that can stop them. Although Liverpool look strong, we know Spurs are capable of scoring in this one.
The value in this game may be to back the draw because I don’t think Tottenham quite have the class to beat Liverpool, but I do think they will get something. Expect to see goals, but ultimately these two top quality teams may have to settle for a point each, which would be a fair reflection on where they are right now in the Premier League.
